Redwood Symphony: Presenting Mechem, Mozart and Stravinsky
February 10, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$10 – $35
Eminent Bay Area composer Kirke Mechem will be in attendance for the performance of his Symphony No. 2, premiered by the San Francisco Symphony under Josef Krips in 1969. Mechem has composed more than 250 works in almost every form and is often called the “dean of American choral composers.”
Mozart’s greatest work for solo strings, Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat, is one of the composer’s most profound and achingly beautiful statements. Jassen Todorov on violin and Paul Yarbrough on viola.
Petrushka is Stravinsky’s first bona fide masterpiece, one of the 20th century’s greatest scores coupled with a poignant and even ridiculous narrative about the love triangle of three puppets that ends in death and a ghastly apparition! Daniel Glover on piano.
